Certainly a story for the ages, powerful and well told. The prose flows like a boulder rolling down a mountain. At times I felt I was reading free-verse poetry.I should have read this in high school, many decades ago. No one recommended it to me; I recommend it to everyone.

A Dog of Flanders Ouida 9781490956046 Books Reviews
Well written' listed for children, but I found it hard to stop reading until I got to the end. A hankie is needed to complete the book!
Though sad this is a story worth reading. It is so well-written that you can feel the emotions coming off the page and you'll be hard-pressed to forget the main characters.
I remember watching an anime adaptation of A Dog of Flanders back in the 90s, along with the adaptation of Little Lord Fauntleroy. I got this e-book to sort of relive that time. I was not disappointed. The story is engaging despite the age of the language style (it was originally written in 1872). This will be part of my kid's reading list.
I love this story and the way it was told. Gratitude, faithfulness, loyalty, things that seem forgotten, lost today in this sad world of us all, come alive in this story guiding us to dare to hope for the gift of such love in our lives. Even if for a second.
A touching story of a boy and his dog. I remember it from childhood and it came to mind on a recent trip to the Netherlands where there is a statue.
This book, written in the early part of the 20th century, uses language a bit dated but the story is incredible and heart breaking. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in World War I stories.
If you have seen a film version of this story, you may not want to read this book. They don't end quite the same. It's not a tale that paints a very positive image of mankind. It is beautifully written, but be warned. I wept as I read the last line.
Certainly a story for the ages, powerful and well told. The prose flows like a boulder rolling down a mountain. At times I felt I was reading free-verse poetry.
I should have read this in high school, many decades ago. No one recommended it to me; I recommend it to everyone.
