Read about true accounts, written by a LAPD police officer, as lived by him. Follow him as he spent 24 years of his life working on the streets of the city of the Angels, between the years of 1960- 1984. Go into his mind and experience the real life drama of his participation in the Muslim riot in 1962, the LA race riot in 1965, the demonstrations in the streets in 1966, and the transgression from a street cop to a homicide detective. Read about what it took to solve homicides over 17 years, from 1967 until 1983, homicides from “Momma/Papa” cases to organized crime cases. Robert E. Reynolds was one of the first detectives to work “cold cases” in Los Angeles. He was also one of the first four detectives to be assigned to a new homicide unit formed by Police Chief Gates in 1975. This unit handled only major crimes that occurred in the city of Los Angeles. The unit had city wide jurisdiction. Discover how a task force went to work on cases involving murder, rape, kidnap and mayhem through the city. This book shows how police work was really done, in a time when there was no DNA, cell phones, or computer programs. The police work was done in the streets. Come walk those streets with a LAPD homicide detective. All the war stories in this book are based on true events.

As I read this book I quickly was taken behind the scenes and got a real taste of what the daily lives of an LAPD officer was like in the 1960s to 1980s. Having lived in Ventura in Southern California during the Watts Riots I was well aware of the tension those living north of LA County were feeling. This book took us into the middle of the situation and then showed us what the officers felt as they had to deal with those they saw every day on their beat and those they did not recognize. It tells the reader what it was like during the times when perhaps the situation didn't make the local paper, but at the same time the officers were dealing with life and death on a daily basis. I have a better appreciation for those in law enforcement and what they experience while they protect us.

could not put it down captivating ,amazing ,sounds like someone has a guarding angel, to have stayed sain and lived thruogh this and still served the people of these communities, how could you not respect officers who put their life on the line every day.beyond a doubt this world has changed and anyone could see this by reading this life story.
As an avid reader, and involved in assessing written material by day, I couldn't put this book down. The author takes the reader along for the journey of his travels, as the title reads. By the end of the 1st chapter, you are already emotionally involved, living vicariously through the "L.A. Cop." As the story progresses, and becomes even more personal, the reader is truly on the case, right alongside the author. I highly recommend "War Stories Lived By a L.A. Cop," for anyone looking to get an inside look at what it is like to be there personally, for anyone who wants to see how law enforcement theory plays out, and for anyone who just wants to read a good book.
Such an interesting book full of vivid pictures of the life of an LA cop from days gone by. Enjoyable!
I love this book, besides knowing the author personally. He was my college professor in Criminal Justice, and we were always telling him he needed to share his stories with the rest of the world. He was a fascinating professor, and made class so interesting....just like his book. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
THIS IS A GREAT BOOK ABOUT ONE POLICEMAN'S LIFE IN LA WHEN I WAS LIVING THERE AT THE SAME TIME 60'S TO 70'S. IT OFFERS INSIGHT INTO THE DAY TO DAY TURMOIL AT A TIME THAT WAS EXTREMELY FUNNY(NOW )AND DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTFUL AT THE SAME TIME. I THINK THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR HISTORY BUFFS AND A LOT OF FUN IF YOU HAPPENED TO AROUND AT THE TIME . GOOD READING AND INFORMATIVE
I normally enjoy both fiction and non fiction cop stories. However it appears that this author has been born again, which I commend him for but this does not make a good cop book.
Having spent many years with LAPD I got tired of hearing how the cops put their batons in the crack of the seat and how he was always selected for the best assignments. This is most likely very true, but does not tell of all the fun police have with their brother and sister officers. I believe that being a police officer is the greatest job on earth, both extremely exciting and fun.
The very best LAPD book I have read is Good Cop, Dead Cop, by Bob Ruchhoft. Many friends have said this is the very best book they have read. It is classified as fiction, but there is also many non fiction events in the book.
Rare insight into an unprecedented period in American history. Eye witness testimony from a "boots on the ground" perspective as to what unfolded in Los Angeles leading up to, during and after the Watts Riots. Forty Eight years later there is still much debate over what happened and why. One thing for certain is that it was a terrible time for all who experienced it, and a time we never want to see repeated. It is our individual responsibility to learn from it and grow together as a nation. Reading this book is one step in that direction. I am proud of my father for taking the time to put his story down on paper. For a man who is more scared of a computer than bad guys with guns this was a momentous achievement.
